Job Description
What You Will Do Train Managers perform the following duties and tasks:
- Manage train crews in support of switching and train building schedules
- Coordinate switching activities with Fenix Marine to support ramp loading / unloading
- Inspect railyard for accurate inventory and confirm computer reported inventories
- Coordinate maintenance activities in the yard and support required maintenance outages
- Report activities on a daily basis / shift basis
- Participate in planning calls, and coordination activities for the terminal
- Seek out and develop improvements in processes
- Document key events and plans, provide appropriate turn overs to incoming managers
- Ensure proper and timely reporting of any exceptions or safety issues to management
- Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Provide oversight for the site safety in accordance with all applicable internal or Fenix Marine directives and policies
- Coordinate activities with a focus on cost containment and reduction opportunities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by senior management
Requirements - Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
- A minimum of four years of experience in train management, yard or dispatch operations.
- Knowledge and ability to perform complex problem-solving tasks
- Functional computer skills, including word processor, spreadsheet, database, graphical, project scheduling, and email applications
- Ability to work neatly and accurately, independently or as part of a team
- Ability to meet or improve upon established project timelines
Preferred: - Railroad/intermodal freight industry experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
Location: - This role is based out of San Pedro, CA 90731
- This role requires employees to be on-site during designated shifts.
Work Environment The Train Manager works primarily in an office setting but can also be expected to go outdoors into the rail yard and ramp area in all weather conditions to assist crews and inspect conditions and inventory.
Hours REMPREX is a 24/7/365 operation. This is a full-time position, typically working on a rotating 12hr shift schedule, with an alternating 4-3-3-4 rotation. This schedule is 4 shifts on, followed by 3 shifts off, 3 shifts on, then 4 shifts off. Shift assignment could be day shift, or night shift. Occasionally, the role can require extended work hours, including vacation coverages, or sick day coverages. The shifts also cover weekends, nights, holidays, and on-call duty as needed. The shift schedule is subject to change as business conditions and needs will determine.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle, feel and reach. The employee must be able to both sit and stand for long periods of time and must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus for both day and night operation.
