Site Safety Specialist - Electrical & LOTO

Position Summary

The Site Safety Specialist - Electrical & Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) is responsible for implementing and overseeing safety procedures that control hazardous energy during equipment maintenance and construction activities. This role ensures compliance with safety standards, prevents accidents caused by unexpected equipment energization, and fosters a strong safety culture on-site. The Specialist will conduct assessments, lead training, perform audits, and maintain accurate records of LOTO and other safety activities.

In addition, the Specialist will support the overall administration of the site safety program, contribute to continuous improvement, and take an active role in professional development by seeking opportunities to expand their knowledge and skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and Enforce LOTO Procedures: Ensure proper lockout/tagout practices are followed for all electrical equipment during maintenance and servicing.
  • Hazard Assessments: Identify hazardous energy sources, verify de-energization, and confirm safe conditions before work begins.
  • Training & Coaching: Lead safety orientations, LOTO training sessions, toolbox talks, and mentor employees and subcontractors in safe work practices.
  • Auditing & Compliance: Conduct regular audits of LOTO activities and site safety practices to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and Exacore’s safety policies.
  • Daily Safety Oversight: Walk the jobsite daily with supervision, identify safety concerns, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Program Administration: Maintain KPA safety documentation, review reports, and ensure timely completion of safety compliance reporting.
  • Meetings & Participation: Oversee Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) meetings, toolbox talks, and ensure relevant topics are addressed with active engagement.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Perform scheduled inspections of first aid stations, AEDs, and fire extinguishers.
  • Culture & Engagement: Promote Exacore’s safety culture and lead initiatives such as the CSI program.
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of safety meetings, programs, and citations; ensure documentation is submitted to the Division Safety Director.
  • Contractor Coordination: Assist with the onboarding of subcontractors and ensure adherence to site specific safety manuals.
  • PPE & Materials Management: Coordinate availability and proper use of personal protective equipment and safety supplies.
  • Signage & Controls: Maintain consumable jobsite signage (red tape, extinguisher markers, etc.).
  • Orientation: Conduct thorough and engaging new employee orientations to communicate hazards, procedures, and expectations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with management, owners, trades, and subcontractors to maintain a safe and productive jobsite.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of direct safety experience, with at least 50% of responsibilities in safety oversight.
  • LOTO & Electrical Safety Expertise: Proven knowledge and application of lockout/tagout and electrical safety practices.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA standards (e.g., 29 CFR 1910.147) and industry best practices.
  • Certifications: Completion of OSHA 510 or 511; must hold competent person status and certifications in electrical safety and LOTO.
  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to lead training, coach teams, and collaborate effectively across all construction groups.
  • Administrative Skills: Ability to manage orientations, substance abuse programs, investigations, and reporting.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent organization, decision making, and problem solving abilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk on uneven surfaces for extended periods.
  • Capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking, climbing, bending, and other physical site activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to typical construction site hazards.
