Great opportunity to go to work for a small/mid-sized Healthcare related company located in the Galleria area of Houston off Southwest Freeway. This is a contract to hire role with a very stable organization and with a great boss and team!!!

Role Summary

We are seeking a high-performing Senior BI Lead to spearhead our data visualization and reporting strategy. This is a "player-coach" role intended for an individual with mastery-level Power BI technical skills and the leadership acumen to manage a small junior level team. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of BI solutions—from architecting complex data models to mentoring junior developers and presenting high-level insights to executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Team Management

  • Team Development: Manage, mentor, and coach a small team of BI developers and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
  • Workload Prioritization: Oversee the BI project roadmap, prioritizing high-impact requests and ensuring timely delivery of actionable insights.
  • Performance Management: Conduct performance reviews, establish career goals for team members, and define standard operating procedures for development.

2. Strategic BI Development (Hands-on)

  • Power BI Mastery: Design and build advanced, interactive dashboards using Power BI Desktop, incorporating complex DAX measures and Power Query (M) transformations.
  • Data Architecture: Lead the design of scalable data models (Star/Snowflake schemas) and integrate data from various sources (SQL, Azure, ERP/CRM systems).
  • Performance Optimization: Take the lead in troubleshooting and optimizing report performance, including query tuning and gateway configuration.

3. Stakeholder Engagement & Governance

  • Strategic Partnering: Collaborate with executive leadership and department heads to align BI initiatives with overall business goals.
  • Requirement Translation: Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating ambiguous business problems into precise analytical blueprints.
  • Data Governance: Establish and enforce Power BI governance policies, including workspace management, Row-Level Security (RLS), and data accuracy standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in BI development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management capacity.
  • Power BI Expertise: Deep technical knowledge of Power BI Service, DAX Studio, Power Query, and advanced visualization techniques.
  • Technical Stack:
  • Advanced SQL for data manipulation and extraction.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure (Data Factory, Synapse, or Blob storage) or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
  • Communication: Exceptional storytelling skills with the ability to convey complex data narratives to non-technical audiences.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Finance, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications - (a plus, not mandatory)

  • Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or similar.
  • Advanced Tech: Experience integrating AI/ML models or Python/R scripts into Power
  • Agile: Experience working within Agile or SAFe project management frameworks.
