Position Summary Supervise, plan and coordinate the parking enforcement and parking meter repairer/collector activities and operations within The Parking Division of the Department of Municipal Development; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public and provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Parking Division Manager. Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, law enforcement, business administration, or public administration;
and Five (5) years of experience in any combination of the following areas:
- parking operations
- code enforcement
- public relations; and
To include one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) or ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a valid National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
Must pass a background check.
Must pass a pre-employment physical.
Preferred Knowledge - Operational characteristics of tools used to perform repairs, services and activities of a parking enforcement
- Modern and complex principles and practices of parking enforcement
- Methods and techniques for repairing parking meters
- Small mechanisms and timing devices
- Modern office procedures, methods and equipment
- Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
- Customer service and public relations principles and techniques
- Basic local geography
- Communication codes to support public safety agencies
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations
- Basic mathematic principles, computer programs and applications such as Microsoft
- City and State ordinances and regulations pertaining to parking signage and equipment
- Principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting
- Principles and practices of money collecting, counting and depositing
- Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation
Preferred Skills & Abilities - Supervise, organize, and review the work of lower level staff
- Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff
- Use computerized equipment relative to parking enforcement
- Provide testimony in court cases
- Learn standard operational procedures and traffic codes
- Utilize basic computer programs used in the operation of assigned area
- Collect, count and deposit coins, bills and receipts from City parking meters and automated pay stations
- Perform basic mathematical calculations
- Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
- Prepare clear and concise reports
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials and the general public
