Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer III

Location: On-site – Sullivan Park, Corning, NY

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours/week (Overtime as Required)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to join our team at Sullivan Park. This senior-level role focuses on the design, build, and installation of advanced mechanical and process equipment used in glass manufacturing. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience , strong SolidWorks proficiency , and a background in managing equipment design and vendor execution .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed mechanical design of handling and process equipment using SolidWorks.
  • Lead and execute the design, installation, start-up, and debug of robust manufacturing equipment.
  • Manage and coordinate with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams (electrical, controls, IT, facilities, operations).
  • Conduct and review structural FEA analyses to ensure mechanical integrity.
  • Provide on-site mechanical support during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Interpret and verify engineering drawings and equipment layout against site installation.
  • Ensure all designs comply with OSHA and machine safety standards .
  • Troubleshoot mechanical systems and resolve installation discrepancies in collaboration with Corning engineers and vendors.
  • Lead mechanical/electrical trades during on-site equipment implementation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Technology.
  • 10+ years of mechanical equipment design experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and competent in structural FEA analysis .
  • Proven experience with full lifecycle of mechanical equipment: design, install, start-up, debug .
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles (mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, metallurgy, and machine design).
  • Experience with machine guarding and safety practices in compliance with OSHA.
  • Excellent communication and project coordination skills.
  • Strong team collaboration with the ability to work across diverse teams.
