Job Description

Position Overview:

This role reports to the R&D Manager and collaborates closely with laboratory personnel and other departmental teams. The primary responsibility is the development and research of fluorine-free firefighting foams for Class A combustible materials and Class B flammable and combustible liquids. The individual will be instrumental in creating and developing novel formulations for the fire protection industry.

The position involves collaboration across R&D functions to explore, test, and produce innovative products, as well as to advance new technologies in the industry. The role also includes providing subject matter expertise and support for technology transfer, product approvals, and process scale-up for new firefighting foams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and development focused on improving current fire safety products.
  • Design and execute research aligned with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Document and report all testing procedures, results, and observations in a laboratory notebook.
  • Perform laboratory tests in accordance with written procedures.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing on new product development, including trials and scale-up.
  • Provide technical support for customer-focused projects and assist in resolving product quality issues.
  • Communicate technical information effectively across departments and teams.
  • Prepare written documentation and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) standards.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Proficiency in writing technical reports and documenting procedures and outcomes.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Competence in data collection, analysis, evaluation, and scientific methodology.
  • Excellent laboratory and communication skills.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective organizational, planning, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with Minitab is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering; advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) preferred, especially with experience in HI&I or cosmetics industries.
  • At least 10 years of experience in formulating or developing surfactant-based products or specialty chemicals in a manufacturing setting.
  • Willingness to travel at least 10% within the U.S.
  • Availability to work after hours and on weekends as needed.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
