Job Description

The Dialysis Technician provides dialysis treatment topatients suffering from kidney failure. The Dialysis Technician is responsible for operating dialysis machinesand providing care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment. The Dialysis Technician works directly underand closely with registered nurses as members of the patient care team. Main duty is to operate dialysis machines andcare for patients during their dialysis treatment. This involves setting up the machine,monitoring the patient during treatment, and performing machine maintenance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepares patients for dialysis treatment and continuallymonitors patient during the treatment
• Properly sets up the dialysis machine in preparation for use
• Prepares dialysate according to formula and primes withsaline or heparinized solution
• May be responsible for transporting patient to dialysisroom; Records patient's pre-dialysis weight and vital signs
• Accurately explains the dialysis procedure and the operationof the dialysis machine to new patients and answers any questions
• Calculates fluid removal or replacement to be achievedduring the dialysis procedure
• Uses proper techniques to access the dialysis site andcorrectly connects patient to dialysis machine, begins procedure and monitorsthe dialysis site during the treatment
• Accurately collects, documents, and reports all patient data(i.e. vital signs, weights). Observes and monitors patient(s) during theprocedure and reports any changes or adverse reactions in patient's conditionto the Registered Nurse on duty
• Obtains and records patient's post-dialysis weight and vitalsigns per policy
• Documents all patient care procedures performed during thedialysis treatment and reports data to the Registered Nurse
• Correctly follows all policies and procedures in testing themachine pre-treatment
• Correctly follows all policies and procedures to discontinuetreatment and disconnect the patient from the dialysis machine
• Responsible for cleaning and quality control of the dialysisequipment. Reports any machine problemsor malfunctions to the facility or registered nurse as required by policy
• Recognizes and acts appropriately to any patient signs andsymptoms indicating the possible onset of complications of the dialysistreatment
• Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies andprocedures
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

• Possession of a valid State professional dialysis license,where required
• Dialysis Technician Certification by the National NephrologyTechnology Certification Board preferred and/or per state or clientrequirements.
• Minimum of one year experience in dialysis preferred.
• Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
• Participation and completion of Amergis Competency programwhen applicable
• Current CPR if applicable
• TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
• Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
• Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
• Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
• Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
• Computer proficiency required
• Must be at least 18 years of age
