The Village of Villa Park is currently recruiting to fill a full-time Community Service Officer in the Police Department. Under the direction of the Deputy Police Chief, the Community Service Officer is a uniformed, unarmed civilian assigned to supplement sworn police officers in the enforcement of Village ordinances. The position is responsible for protecting life and property, responding to non-criminal complaints, enforcing parking restrictions and enforcing animal control ordinances.

The Community Service Officer is responsible for providing high-quality customer service to the general public and responding to non-emergency phone calls, conducting community outreach activities, providing traffic control, and assisting motorists locked out of their vehicles. This position also serves as a Child Passenger Safety Technician and conducts matron duty, if applicable.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, trade school or equivalent combination of education and experience and must be 18 years or older, have a valid driver's license with a clear driving record, and have sufficient physical strength and stamina to pass a work-related pre-employment physical examination and background investigation. Experience working in a high-volume customer service environment is preferred.

Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, day shifts 7:00am to 3:00 PM and afternoon shifts 3:00 PM to 11 PM.

This is an AFSCME Collective Bargaining Unit position, with starting pay at $26.54 per hour. The full range for the position is $26.54-$30.44.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: • High school diploma, trade school education or equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or older. • Experience in high-volume customer service environment preferred. • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted.

Special Requirements

• Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, day shifts 7:00am to 3:00 PM and afternoon shifts 3:00 PM to 11 PM. • Child Passenger Safety Technician certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. • Obtain and maintain the Illinois Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS)certification • May be required to assist with special event support during evenings or weekends; • Valid Illinois Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle report • Must have sufficient physical strength and stamina to pass a work-related pre-employment physical examination and a background investigation.
