The Benefits & Wellness Manager is responsible for advancing the overall mission of the College by initiating programs and services that attract, retain, support, and motivate a diverse and highly qualified faculty, administration, and staff. Responsibilities include serving as the primary departmental representative for health and wellness administration; managing leave programs including but not limited to Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA); managing requests for ADA accommodations; handling related compliance initiatives and administering various day-to-day functions of the department.
Essential Job Functions:
25 % A. Serve as the primary departmental representative for all health and welfare benefits administration (e.g., enrollments, changes, terminations, plan design questions, oversight of invoice reconciliation, carrier and subscriber correspondence, retirement plan and healthcare flexible spending account non-discrimination testing). Benefits include health, dental, vision, accident, accidental death and dismemberment, basic and voluntary life, & disability insurance; flexible spending accounts; retirement plans; and the Employee Assistance Program. Manage the logistics of the annual open enrollment process. Maintain compliance with regard to record maintenance and required reporting to include but not limited to COBRA, ERISA, PPACA (annual 1095-C form process), and federal and state benefits law.
25 % B. Coordinate and administer FMLA, and other types of leave requests, and requests for ADA accommodations in compliance with federal law and College policy. Manage eligibility requirements, required documentation, and return to work schedules. Maintain compliance with regard to record maintenance.
15% C. Develop and oversee year-round wellness strategy and programming, including developing content for the Wellness Newsletter and collaborating with vendors and the HR team to offer engaging wellness events for staff and faculty.
5 % D. Collaborate with the Talent & Technology Manager and Director in the development, use, and maintenance of the HRIS system regarding collection, retrieval, accessibility, and usage of employee information for benefits, wellness, and leave purposes. Program the system for open enrollment. Regularly run reports from the system.
5 % E. Work on special projects, audits, research, etc. as assigned by the AVP and/or Director. Examples include AAUP reporting, 5500s, Medicare data match, and benefits surveys.
5 % F. Manage the logistics of new hire benefits enrollment process.
5% G. Assist with the development and maintenance of Goucher College policies and procedures for faculty and staff benefits, wellness, and leave programs. Analyze and interpret policies and procedures to provide guidance and counseling related to benefits, wellness, and leave programs.
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred: Master’s degree in Human Resources, or related field, or relevant HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, or CEBS).
Professional Experience:
Required: 3 years of experience in the administration of various benefit plans (e.g., health, retirement, leave), and knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply benefits-related laws and regulations (e.g., COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, PPACA). Experience preparing various benefits-related reports. Experience in facilitating a robust wellness program. Experience with managing benefits within an HCM platform.
Preferred: 7 years of experience with the design, administration, and communication of employee benefit plans. Experience with Workday.
