Job Description and Requirements
SUMMARY: Plans, directs, oversees, and coordinates activities associated with construction, maintenance, marketing and operation of airport facilities in accordance with the FAA or City Council policies and regulations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. The Airport Director will report to the Mayor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Consults with governmental officials; community engineers and representatives of airlines to plan such matters as design and development of airport facilities; formulation of operating rules; regulations; procedures; and aircraft landing, taxiing, and take-off patterns for various types of aircrafts.
Negotiates with representatives of airlines, companies, or individuals for acquisition of property for development of the airport, lease of airport buildings and facilities, or use of rights-of-way over private property.
Formulates with FAA and maintains procedures for certification, security, disaster response and other aeronautical activities.
Inspects or reviews inspection reports of Airport facilities such runways, buildings, beacons and lighting, and automotive or construction equipment to determine repairs, replacement or improvements required.
Coordinates activities of personnel involved in repair and maintenance of airport facilities, buildings, and equipment to minimize interruption of airport operations and improve efficiency.
Reviews reports for expenditures, proposal for improvements to facilities, and estimate increase in volume of traffic in order to prepare budget estimates for upcoming fiscal year.
Represents airport before civic or other organizational groups, courts, boards, and commissions.
Prepares, monitors, and submits annual budget.
Attends all City Council Meetings, In-Person or via Zoom.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises 12 or more employees at the Greenville Mid-Delta Airport. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsible for the overall coordination and evaluation of this unit. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Knowledge of:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree or equivalent; or four (4) to ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format, i.e., business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
